So my last post about my TomTom VIA 1535 was about set up and installation so this post I’m going to tell you all about some of the great features that I have used while running around town and doing errands. Please forgive me if I skip around a bit, there is so much I want to write and tell you all about!
First of all let me tell you about the phone sync feature. As I said in my last post it was really easy to pair up my phone with my VIA. What’s cool about this feature is that it automatically downloads your phone book for you. It also has a setting where it stores your home phone number and you can use voice recognition to call! I tried this out and although it was super simple when calling home (Just say “Call Home”)it was bit more of a challenge trying to get a number out of my phone book. I had to keep saying “Next Page” until I finally got to the T’s and then had to say which number that I wanted to call. Not something I would feel comfortable with while driving so I think I will just stick to not making phone calls with the voice recognition. You can set up the GPS to answer calls automatically or with a certain amount of rings or not at all. I do love that setting! The speaker has good sound quality and both me and my hunny could hear each other crystal clear!
I’ve got to tell you that I was super impressed with my TomTom VIA just driving around town. I used it to get to the Kia dealership since I needed a oil change before our big road trip. I ALWAYS get lost going there. I once again tried the voice recognition saying the command and then saying the address. It took a couple of times (3 I believe) to finally get the address correct. You can also type in the address if your impatient (like I usually am but really wanted to test out the voice recognition). But happy to say that I made it there and I didn’t get lost!! Woop Woop! I also tried out the “Take me to the nearest Starbucks” voice command and it found one for me.
Some of the “extras” that I experienced while driving:
Shows the speed limit of the road you are on. I always seem to miss the speed limit signs and am always asking what’s the speed limit so this feature is one of my favorites. It also shows how fast you are driving and will show up red if you are going to fast. (Yes I found that out on my own.)
Another feature that I appreciate is that it tells you what lane to be in while driving on the freeway! I don’t know how many times I have been in a wrong lane and missed my exit and Washington freeways are so intertwined that I always end up on the wrong one so this will cut my driving time down a lot! Haha!
Change your route. When I first started out it wanted to take me down a long busy main road with so many lights on it that I can’t stand to use the road anymore. So I simply clicked on “change route” and it came up with a different option on how to get there. I clicked again on the new route and presto chango I was on my way!
I could not be happier with my TomTom VIA and I cannot wait to use it on our road trip and tell you guys all about even MORE of the features it has to offer! Wish me luck on our trip and although I will be trying to keep up with blogging it may be a week or two before you hear from me again. Wyoming or Bust!! And of course if you like what you have read make sure you check out all their great products at www.tomtom.com and like them on Facebook!
